ReproCell developed human ES/iPS cell culure technology in close co-operation with Kyoto University. It is the first company licensed to generate iPS cells by reprogramming from iPS Academia Japan , which was established to transfer iPS technologies from Kyoto University.

ReproCELL has commercialized culture medium for human ES/iPS cells as early as 2005. This medium was originally developed by company co-founder Professor Nakatsuji at Kyoto University, and was named `Primate ES Cell Medium` because human iPS cells had not yet been invented. It has supported the entire ES/iPS cell research field for more than 6 years. One of the most famous studies made based on this product was the generation of the first human iPS cells by Professor Yamanaka at Kyoto University (Cell 2007). For this groundbreaking achievement, Yamanaka was awarded the Nobel price in Medicine in 2012.

After this success, reproCELL has continued to refine media for human ES/iPS cells, and today offers a comprehensive product portfolio for human stem cell research.
