Kanamycin

Kanamycin is an aminoglycoside antibotic made from Streptomyces kanamyceticus (C18H36N4O11xH2SO4, MW 582.58). Mixture from Kanamycin A and less than 5 % Kanamycin B. Kanamycin is active against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as Mycoplasma.

mechanism: Binds to the 30 S ribosomal subunit, thus inhibiting protein biosynthesis.
